CORE SERVICES

Analyzing genomic patterns

We support land management and conservation by investigating genomic patterns. Genomic analyses offer a glimpse into species’ evolutionary histories, how they are related to and influence one another, how they interact with contemporary environmental variation, and future evolutionary change. To support this research, we generate genome-wide data for native plant species and use population genetic theory and machine learning to achieve our goals. Further, we use the results of genomic analyses to design field-based experiments to validate our understanding of evolutionary processes.

Developing Geospatial layers and tools

Data resulting from research are not useful unless they are translated into products that help stakeholders make decisions, and much of our research guides choices that stakeholders make across landscapes. As a result, a primary activity at LSC is developing web-based applications and geospatial layers (e.g., maps) that display complex patterns in straight-forward ways.

Creating data-driven Species and habitat management plans

The goal of our research is to illuminate fundamental biological processes so that we can inform managers, practitioners, and stakeholders of the best practices when engaging in species or habitat management. We develop management plans that leverage our research and tools to provide clear, accessible, and actionable guidelines.

TRAINING AND EDUCATION

Ensuring the impact of our science is of critical importance to LSC scientists. As such, we participate in conferences, webinars, seminars, and workshops to share knowledge and train colleagues and stakeholders.
